The Electrical Elephant Fence

An Electrical Elephant Fence is a barrier that use to protect villages from elephant attacks. It produce some serious current and it may harm to the elephants. Because of that elephants can not enter to the villages. But current elephant fence have some problems. Wasting electricity and harmful to other small animals are major problems of those. Sometimes children also get hurt because of that current. So we are came up with some solution for that problem. We are Robust IT introducing automatic electricity supply system for elephant fence. From this system wastage of the electricity to elephant fence will be reduced. This system working with smart elephant collar that we are developing. When a smart collared elephant reaching to the signal range of the elephant fence, system will activate and give electricity to elephant fence. We use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags to track the elephant collar. In the normal situations electricity supply to the elephant fence is off. ...

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

For our project we chose Raspberry Pi 3 Model B as main development board because its more powerful than Arduino development board. These are the specifications of Raspberry Pi 3.            It contains Broadcom BCM2837 chip system. Central processing unit contains 4x ARM Cortex-A53. It has powerful Broadcom VideoCore 4 as Graphical Processing Unit. RAM size is 1GB. It has both Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Storage is on microSD. Most importantly it has 40 General Purpose Input Output pins that we can get output for our project.

HL-52S Relay Module

In our project we have to deal with High Voltage current for elephant fence. In this case we have to use this HL-52S Relay Module. These are few specs of module. 5V, 10A 2-Channel Relay Interface board It can be controlled directly with 3.3V or 5V logic signals from Micro controller. It has 1*4 pin header for connecting power and for controlling the 2 relays marked on PCB as follows. GND - Connect 0V to this pin IN1 - Controls relay 1 IN2 - Controls relay 2 VCC - Connect 5V to this pin. Is used to power the Opto couplers.

Radio Frequency Identification Reader

In our project we are using RFID module to sense about incoming elephant threat. Here is brief intrduction about RC522 module. RC522 Specification                   MF RC522 is used in highly integrated 13.56MHz contactless communication card chip to read and write, of NXP for “three” and the application launched a low voltage, low cost, small size, non-contact card chip to read and write, intelligent instruments and portable handheld devices developed better.            The MF RC522 use of advanced modulation and demodulation concept completely integrated in the 13.56MHz all kinds of passive contactless communication methods and protocols. 14443A compatible transponder signal. The digital part handles the the ISO14443A frames and error detection. In addition, support Quick CRYPTO1 encryption algorithm, the term verification MIFARE series. MFRC522 support MIFARE series of high-speed non-contact co...

Current Situation

Including to WWF official web site , they are working together with there partners to reduce these conflicts. These include: chilli and tobacco-based deterrents to keep elephants out of fields; changing farming practices - making farms easier to defend; growing crops that elephants don't like; education; and improving oil palm plantation practices in Malaysia and Indonesia.  source:http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/elephants/human_elephant_conflict.cfm

Introduction

Last year marked the highest number of human and elephant deaths due to the human-elephant conflict compared to statistics since 2012, the annual report of the Wildlife Conservation Department 2016 indicated. According to the report tabled in Parliament last week, 279 elephant deaths had been reported in the island last year, while 88 people including 11 females and four children died due to elephant attacks. Compared to 2015, the number of elephant deaths had increased by 74 and the number of human deaths had increased by 25. Gunfire had been the cause of death of 52 elephants. A total of 47 elephants died due to ‘hakka patas’, 26 due to electrocution, six due to poisoning, 12 due to train accidents and 17 due to other accidents. The cause of death of 54 elephants is unknown while 35 elephants died due to natural causes. The highest number of elephant attacks on humans was reported in Polonnaruwa, Eastern and Anuradhapura wildlife regions. Seventy eight people we...
